Henry L. Bates speech and two leaves from a text in Spokane

 Accession
Identifier: ACC-2019-89

Content Description

Two documents apparently owned by Henry L. Bates. The speech, "Ninetieth anniversary of Forest Grove Congreational Church Foundations, 1845" was given by him on October 19, 1935. The text in Spokane appears to be two leaves from the printed booklet, Etshiit thlu sitskai thlu siais thlus Sitskaisitlinish (Lapwai: 1842), which was one of the first books printed in the Oregon Territory. Bates was the principal of the Tualatin Academy until it closed in 1914, after which time he became a professor at Pacific University.
