Historical Note

The Mox Totalum Tennis Club operated in Forest Grove, Oregon, in the early 1900s. It was a tennis club with a membership of one to two dozen players, both male and female. The members included prominent faculty from Pacific University, including James W. Marsh and H. L. Bates. It held meetings on a monthly basis. The name of the club, Mox Totalum, appears to have been a scholarly joke -- it does not translate directly from Latin, but might be a Dog Latin version of the phrase, "Next Total," or perhaps "Next Score." Records for the group only exist from 1900-1902, so its activities outside of the monthly meetings are unknown.
