Siletz grass trade basket

Content Description
Used for trade by the Siletz in Oregon. Made of coarse grasses and some reeds. Crude workmanship. 6" high, 6" across. One short broken handle is on one side. Briefly appraised by Stephanie Craig (Grand Ronde basket weaver), 11/2018: Juncus effusus (common rush) with maidenhair fern overlay; root-wrapped handle. Repeating design element on the basket may represent an elk on the top and possibly a mountain on the bottom.
