Tozier, Albert E., 1860-1937

Biography

Albert E. Tozier was born in Nebraska in 1860. He moved with his parents to Oregon as child and the family settled in Hillsboro. In 1881, Albert graduated from Tualatin Academy, which was a high school attached to Pacific University in Forest Grove. Afterwards, he embarked on a career as a newspaper editor, working on many of the newspapers in Washington County, Oregon as well as other locations. Newspaper he founded and/or edited include: the "Aurora" (Forest Grove, OR, 1882); "Lewis County Nugget" (Chehalis, WA, 1883); "Hillsboro Independent" later known as the "Hillsboro Argus" (Hillsboro, OR, 1885-1887); the "Farmer" (Portland, 1906-?); and others.

Tozier also was a founder and president of the National Editorial Association, and served as secretary of the Oregon Press Association. He was an early supporter and curator of the Champoeg museum. His personal collections formed the kernel of the Washington County Museum (later, Five Oaks Museum) collections.

Tozier died in 1937.
