The Lunar New Year Stamp Collection

 Accession
Identifier: ACC-2019-98

Content Description

This collection contains twelve stamps made out of engraved silver ingots, layered with 24-karat gold. The stamps are re-creations of the United States Postal Service's Lunar New Year Stamp Collection. This stamp collection began in 1992 with the "Year of the Rooster" stamp created by graphic designer, Clarence Lee. The stamp was so popular that the USPS decided to issue a new stamp every year for the Chinese New Year. The collection was completed in 2004 after the creation of the twelfth stamp. This collection also contains two commemorative booklets issued by the USPS detailing the creation, design and other information about the collection. The stamps are held in a maroon stamp box that is accompanied by a key.
