Scope and Contents

Press, press release, and correspondence from and regarding Atiyeh's appointments. Includes a 1986 letter from Betty Roberts thanking Atiyeh for appointing her to the Oregon Supreme Court. Thank-you letters (from Atiyeh's "Keeper Letters" file) from Joan Austin, who served on the Economic Development Commission, and from Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Edwin Peterson. Also includes a senate roll call tally for the failed 1979 vote on approving Kelly Woods as temporary head of the State Department of Energy.

Collection materials are primarily in English. Some materials relating to Atiyeh’s travels and international activities, particularly brochures and press clippings, are in foreign languages, primarily Arabic, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. Some family materials and correspondence are in Arabic.

Conditions Governing Access

Collection is open for research. One file of materials is currently restricted to protect confidential identification and medical information.

Collection includes sound recordings and moving images on obsolete media to which access may be limited based on playback equipment limitations and preservation concerns.
