Historical Note
Herrick Hall was a women's dormitory on the Pacific University campus that was first built in 1883. It was destroyed by a fire in 1906 and then rebuilt in 1907, partially using funds raised by campus women. Most women students on campus from the late 1800s through the early 1900s lived in Herrick Hall. Their government from 1914 on dealt with social occasions such as birthdays and dances, fundraising activities, newspaper subscriptions and officer elections. Around 1958 when a new women's dormitory (Walter Hall) was built, it became a men's dormitory. By 1970 the building was in poor repair and was no longer in use by students. It burned down a second time in 1973, and has not been rebuilt.
