Pacific University Football Films

 Collection
Identifier: RG-7-241

Scope and Contents

This collection primarily includes 16mm motion picture films of the Pacific University football team over the decades. Most of the films are recorded games of Pacific's football team playing schools such as Willamette, Western Washington University, College of Idaho, Chico State, Linfield, Whitman, Lewis and Clark. Some films are recordings of the Picnic Bowl, alumni games, or intersquad practice. Some container covering the reels are taped together, most likely due to two reels representing two parts to the same football game. More detailed notes can be found at each series level of the collection.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection is composed of fragile analog video formats. The originals cannot be played back without risking damage to them. To access the films, researchers must inquire about the feasibility of converting the original formats to digital files, which may incur fees and will require processing time. Please contact the archives for more information.

Pacific University owns the copyright to some, but not all, of the materials housed in its archives. Copyright for materials authored or otherwise produced as official business of Pacific University is retained by Pacific University and requires its permission for publication. Copyright status for other collection materials varies. Transmission or reproduction of materials protected by U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.) beyond that allowed by fair use requires the written permission of the copyright owners. Historical Note

The Pacific University football team has been an important part of the school's athletic history since 1892 when the football program first began. For most of its history, the team played against regional teams that were part of the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference, such as Linfield College, Whitman College and Willamette University. The football team also traditionally hosted "picnic bowls" that involve intersquad scrimmages, as well as and alumni games where the current Pacific football team played against the alumni football players. Video recordings were made of the team's games since at least the 1940s until 1992, when the team went on hiatus. Pacific University revived its football program in 2010.
