Pacific University satirical student newspapers collection
Scope and Contents
This collection includes five issues of "The Would Be" (1898), one issue of "Wise and Otherwise" (1898?), one issue of "The Battleaxe" (1900) and one issue beginning with the line, "These do not stand for bees in your bonnet" (circa 1900). These illustrated satirical newspapers were produced by Pacific University students between 1898-1900, probably using a mimeograph machine. They feature stories about the students' social life, debate contests and politics. Several of the newspapers note: "Circulation 60 copies."
