A memoir in booklet format by Richard Hanson, titled: "Looking Back to Forest Grove and Through the Trees" circa 2024. Hanson was an executive at Weyerhaeuser Timber Company as well as a Trustee of Pacific University. In his memoir, Hanson recounts the story of his life, including: his birth and early childhood in Forest Grove circa 1943; attending Forest Grove High School in the 1950s; attending the University of Oregon (Class of 1965); marrying his wife, Joy; the births of his children; working for US Gypsum and living in several other states; moving back to the Pacific Northwest and going to work for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company circa 1969; living and sailing around Puget Sound; moving to Eugene and continuing work for Weyerhaeuser from the late 1970s-1990s, including managing mills and dealing with activists; becoming Senior Vice President of Weyerhaeuser's timberlands in 1999 and moving back to Puget Sound; continued work as an executive during the acquisition of Willamette Industries and becoming Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2002; family relationships and trips; Weyerhaeuser's international business; his retirement in 2008; vacations and trips; joining the Pacific University Board of Trustees in 2005 and contributing funding towards restarting Pacific's football program as well as the construction of Hanson Stadium, which was named in his family's honor.

Biographical Note

Richard Hanson worked for the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company from about 1969-2008, serving as their Chief Operating Officer from approximately 2002-2008. Born in Forest Grove in the early 1940s, he grew up there before attending the University of Oregon (Class of 1965). After working for US Gypsum for a few years, he joined Weyerhaueser and rose through its ranks, working on tasks including the management of mills in Oregon, international timberland management, and international trade. He joined Pacific University's Board of Trustees in 2005 and advocated for the return of the football program. He helped to fund the construction of Pacific's Hanson Stadium, which was named in honor of his family.
