Scope and Contents Note

Papers of Pacific University professor James Rood Robertson, who was also the clerk of the Congregational Church in Forest Grove, Oregon. The collection chiefly consists of incoming correspondence related to Church business, particularly character references for applicants to become pastor. Notably, there there are multiple letters about applicants Rev. William A. Gerrie in 1901; Rev. H. Edward Mills in 1902; Rev. C. DeWitt Brower in 1902; and other individuals. Letters are written by various Congregational ministers, including Rev. Cephas F. Clapp, Superintendent of Oregon for the Congregational Home Missionary Society; Rev. H. Bross, Superintendent of Nebraska for the Congregational Home Missionary Society; and others. Among the printed ephemera is a pamphlet entitled "The Congregational Board of Pastoral Supply" by Charles B. Rice, Secretary of the Board in Boston.
