Klickitat tree fiber basket

 Accession
Identifier: MUS-102

Content Description

Used to carry wet things since the materials are so tightly woven. The craftsmanship is similar to the Klickitat. Made of reeds or tree fibers and grasses with native dyes. 15" by 13" in diameter. Oval in shape. 12" high, worn on the top edges. Colors include three different shades of brown. Briefly appraised by Stephanie Craig (Grand Ronde basket weaver), 11/2018: Agrees that this is a Klickitat basket, possibly used for gathering berries as there are apparent stains. Does not think that it was used to carry wet things. The white fibers are bear grass; the black may be maidenhair fern with roots.
