Kalapuya stone hammer head

Content Description

Looks to be a hammer head used to pound stakes and drive wedges. Made of stone. Found near Seth School in Cherry Grove, Oregon. Based on the location, it was likely made by the Kalapuya. 5 3/4" long, 5" wide, 4 1/2" wide another way. Around the center is a groove possibly to attach to a stick with a thong. There is a depression at one spot, 1/2" deep, possibly as a thumb hold.
