 Accession
Identifier: MUS-178

Content Description

4 1/2" long banded stone. Thought to be either a tomahawk head or a sinker used to weigh fishing nets down in the water (also called a net weight). Based on shape, it is likely a sinker. According to museum records, this was found at the site of the battle of Little Bighorn in Montana. Based on the location, it may be Sioux, Cheyenne or Crow. Has black markings on it that could say "Custer", "Battle", and another word underneath that is unreadable.
