Content Description
Used by the Siletz in Oregon. Tan basket with bands of reddish design. 8 1/2" diameter, 6" high. Handwritten note on an attached tag says: "Siletz Tribe. Mrs. Adams." Briefly appraised by Stephanie Craig (Grand Ronde basket weaver), 11/2018: An early Kalapuya style basket, possibly from the 1850s or 1860s, possibly made on a reservation soon after removal from traditional lands. The rim is precontact style. Materials include Juncus effusus (common rush) with a beargrass overlay; reddish fiber is raffia.
