McChesney wedding slippers

 Accession
Identifier: MUS-360

Content Description

White satin slippers with flat heels and leather soles. 10 1/4" long, 1 5/8" across square toes. Looks as if the slippers were only worn for the wedding of the owner. Possibly from Portland, Oregon. Written on the bottom is "Grandmother McChesney's wedding slippers". According to the old Pacific Museum records, this Grandmother McChesney was born in 1811, married in 1836, and died in 1885. According to the old Pacific Museum records, it is possible that she was the grandmother of the donor, Mrs. Carruthers. It is likely that Grandmother McChesney is referring to Mary Broden McChesney, the mother of Margaret McChesney Scott (the wife of Harvey Scott).
