Content Description

Writing set often used by the public scribe. From the Fuzhou province in China. First, there is a brush holder made of bamboo cylinder painted black with silver foil decoration of bamboo shoots, grass, and a bird. 2" diameter, 4 1/2" high. Inside are three broken pieces of what looks to be charcoal. Two of them have black, carved parts of drawings, and the third has yellow/gold, carved Chinese characters. Next, there is a slate ink slab that is black with a piece of black ink for rubbing. Water is poured on slab and ink is then rubbed on until consistency is reached for brushing. 5 1/2" by 4" by 1 1/2" with a lid. Lastly, a spouted water container in the shape of a peach. Used to hold the water for the ink slab. Made of tan ceramic with rust, green, and black decoration in the shape of a vine, leaves, and blossoms. About 2" in diameter.
