"The Elementary Spelling Book" by Noah Webster L.L.D. The book was brought across the plains to Oregon in 1847 with Sarah Ann Ross, the daughter-in-law of Tabitha Brown. In 1848, Brown and Cushing Eells used the book to teach at Tualatin Academy (later Pacific University) in Forest Grove, Oregon. Brown was one of the founders of the Academy.
