Figures of Chinese Buddhist demons with a picture of a house with figures of demons. Made of silk, paint, and a wood dowel at the bottom. 17" by 59 1/2". From China. Used as ornaments. Alternative old Pacific Museum records describe the item as four separate paintings that connect. The artist was Tai Hsi. They depict the Ch'ing dynasty in China in about 1832. They are each 33" high, 12" wide. The first painting is of a black wash monochrome landscape on dark brown silk ground, with two figures traveling a narrow pathway between rivers, which leads up to a village in the distance. High mountains are in the background. Descriptive poem inscription and a signature: "Painted by Tai Hsi in the style of Chiang Kuan-tao (i.e. Chiang Ts'an of Yuan dynasty)". Two seals of the artist: "Tai Hsi" and "Shum-shih". The second painting is of black monochrome landscape on brown silk. In the foreground are pine trees and flat rocks and a man crossing the river on a raft. In the background are hills and a cliff, trees and a dwelling in the distance with mountains. Two sail boats. Descriptive poem inscription with a signature: "(painted) in imitation of the style of Chung-kuei (i.e. Wu Chen of Yuan dynasty) by Shun-shih Tai Hsi". Two seals of the artist, similar to the first painting. The third painting is of black wash monochrome landscape on brown silk ground. In the foreground are trees, dwellings, and a man crossing a bridge. In the background are flat rocks, trees, and a pavilion near the rover, and mountains in the distance. Descriptive poem inscription and a signature: "Inscription and painting by Shun-shih Tai Hsi, done in the style of Tung Pei-yuan (i.e. Tung Tuan of the 10th century)". Two seals similar to the first painting. The fourth painting is of a black wash monochrome landscape on brown silk ground. In the foreground are pine trees, flat rocks, and water. In the background are trees and a pavilion with a sail boat and mountains in the distance. Descriptive poem inscription with the date and signature: "(painted) by Tai Hsi in the style of Ta Ti-tze in the seventh month of cycle year Kuei-wei (i.e. 1832)". Two seals similar to the first painting.
