Content Description

Mandarin square used to recognize the position of an official in imperial China. Apparently from about the year 1600. Decorated with a Buddhist lion. This belonged to a military officer who would wear it during battle. Four animals represent different protections when in battle or away from home. The lotus flowers represent many things, but the important being long life and immortality. 11 3/4" by 10 1/2". A piece of blue figured cloth below, 2 1/2" wide and 10 " long. Back of picture contains details. In a frame.
