Clark Brown Oil Painting

 Accession
Identifier: MUS-1982-38

Content Description

A miniature portrait of Reverend Clark Brown, Tabitha Brown's husband. The painting was done in oil on white ivory and is covered with convex glass and has a gold frame. The artist's name is on the edge of the painting, but no longer legible. The painting originally had a velvet case which Tabitha Brown reportedly wore-out by carrying it and the painting everywhere with her. The case was replaced by a daguerreotype case sometime before 1929. The painting and case were donated by Celista Platz, Rev. Clark Brown's great-great-granddaughter. Reverend Clark Brown passed away in 1817.
