Early 20th century Chinese style chair
Content Description
Chair made of teak wood with an under covering of red stain with a black finish over the red. 40" tall, the seat is 24" by 21" deep. Arms are 12" high with varying widths, because of carving. Back is intricately carved with grapes, lotus flowers, and a bird. Leaf design is in the center of the seat in shallow carving. Ornamental table from the early 20th century, likely specifically from 1900-1910. The style became a fad after the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri. Used in the donor's, Mrs. Cora Lee Burke, home in Tacoma. According to Burke, the table was carved by Japanese craftsmen based on the Chinese furniture style.
