Content Description
Pitcher made of pewter dipped in copper. 7 1/8" high, 6 1/2" diameter. Simple line design on the outside, thin, high handle and somewhat pointed spout. Spout-like hawk's beak, joints of handle to neck in shape of two bird's heads of rivet in shape of eye, crest of bird on top of handle. Repoussé on neck like tent panels- on shoulder, two bands of herring-bone pattern. Plain belly, hollow inside of foot ring. Used for serving wine in the early medieval period, 7th-8th century. From Roman Road in Lincoln, England.
