Content Description

Gold colored metal molded with bulls on the sides. One handle of the same material holds the seal from the University of Athens Museum to authenticate it as an exact copy of the one there. According to the old Pacific Museum records, "The best specimens of the Cretan (Minoan) goldsmith's craft are these (two) gold cups which were found in a vaulted tomb at Vaphio, Greece (near ancient Cimyclae in Laconia) on property belonging to Dr. John Vloyantes' grandfather (Dr. Vloyantes was a professor at Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Oregon, to 1964). The "Bee-hive" tomb was excavated by archaeologist, Christos Tsondas, in 1889 and is now in the National Museum in Athens, they are typical of the first late Minoan period about 1500 B.C."
