 Accession
Identifier: MUS-1984-55

Content Description

X-ray tube used by professors at Pacific University, located in Forest Grove, Oregon, to teach students physics. This type of x-ray tubes were customary in the early 1920s. Gas filled cathode tube, containing a positive electrode, the anode, top and negative electrode, the cathode, bottom. The electric potential applied causes positive gas ions to move toward the cathode. Under the impact of these ions, electrons are freed from the cathode surface. These electrons then impinge on the target where they generate x-rays.
