Biography
Carol B. Pratt (1909-1984) served as a Professor in the Pacific University School of Optometry from 1945 through 1974, and as an emeritus professor afterwards. He was known for his development of a more accurate way of measuring refraction in patients' eyes by performing five different tests, or "factors," and then averaging the results; a measurement he called the "P-Value." He rarely published and was focused on teaching and clinical work. As a professor at the only optometry school in the Pacific Northwest, he had a broad impact on the profession, influencing many optometrists on the west coast.
