Content Description
A collection of track and field sports memorabilia from Pacific University dating from about 1934-1936. The collection formerly belonged to Robert Main, Pacific University class of 1936. Includes: 1. "Hill Military Academy 1934 Indoor Relay Carnival Invitation Mile Relay won by Pacific University" victory banner in blue and white felt, 1934; -- 2. "O.S.C." relay baton, 1934; -- 3. Pair of leather track cleats with metal spikes, 1930s; -- 4. Pacific University pennant in red and black felt, 1930s; -- 5. Pacific University "P" varsity letter, 1930s.

Biographical Note
Robert Main, Pacific University class of 1936, was a member of the track and football teams. Per his obituary (Bend Bulletin, Jul 5, 2006): "Mr. Main was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Vernon, British Columbia. He moved to Portland as a youth, and graduated from Grant High School. He graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove in 1936. He married Dorothy Gillmore on Aug. 22, 1937, in Hillsboro. Mr. Main worked as a high school teacher for eight years in various schools in Oregon. He later worked as a regional manager for the IBM Corp. for over 33 years. He retired in 1975. He lived in Gig Harbor, Wash., from 1972 until he moved to Bend in 2000. He moved, again, to Hillsboro in February 2006. Mr. Main was affilliated with the Kiwanis Club of Tacoma, Elks Gleeman Chorus and the Tacoma Yacht Club, all in Washington. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert, of Bend; two daughters, Kathleen White, of Aloha, and Paula Romey, of Reedville, Va.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren."
