Harvey Clark was an Oregon pioneer of 1840 who helped to found Pacific University, and who owned much of the land where the town of Forest Grove now lies. The collection includes one original letter by Harvey Clark dated 1843; a facsimile and transcription of a 1844 letter; a transcription of his 1837 "memory book," a book of verses and notes written by friends; and typed biographical notes about Harvey Clark.

Margaret Dolly Hinman was the great-granddaughter of Alanson Hinman, one of the earliest and most notable pioneers to settle in the Forest Grove area of Washington County, Oregon. The photograph album contains 40 photographs, mostly portraits of her family and friends.

Abstract The Leabo Family of Oregon and California are descendants of Jacob Leabo (1795-1880), who made his first trip to Oregon in 1847. The Leabos settled in Forest Grove, Oregon in the 1860s, where several family members attended Pacific University. Content Description From the Collection: A collection of family papers, books, and other material accompanied by a travel trunk (or chest) from the Butts Family of Forest Grove, Oregon. The trunk was used during the family's travel on the Oregon Trail. It is made of blind-stamped leather over wooden boards with metal hardware and is approximately 3' x 2' x 2.5'. The initials "J. The Lymans were a family of early Oregon settlers who were active in missionary, educational and literary activities. The bulk of the collection is comprised of correspondence between member of the Lyman family and their friends between the years of 1846 to 1883.

The Mox Totalum Tennis Club operated in Forest Grove, Oregon, in the early 1900s. The collection consists of a handwritten notebook, which includes its constitution, membership lists, and dues records.

Scope and Contents

The Pacific University Forensics Collection includes speech and debate programs, written orations, news clippings related to oratorical events paticipated in or attended by Pacific University students. Also included is a scrapbook of Pacific University music and debate programs probably made by a class of 1900 student. Many events were sponsored by the Inter-Collegiate Oratorial Association of Oregon.

Pacific University had an active intramural sports program during the 1960s, which brought together undergraduate and professional, optometry students through athletic contests.
